Moving out of an apartment in Bangalore is rarely just about packing. Almost every gated community and apartment society in the city has its own move-out process — permission forms, lift bookings, fixed moving hours and a final dues check — and if you skip a step, your truck can be stopped at the gate on moving day.
This guide walks you through what most Bangalore societies ask for, when to start, and how to make sure you get your security deposit back without arguments.
1. Inform your association and landlord early
Tell your apartment association (or facility management office) and your landlord at least one to two weeks before your move. Many societies need advance notice to schedule security staff and block the service lift, and landlords usually want time to arrange the handover inspection.
2. Get the move-out permission or NOC
Most societies issue a move-out pass, gate pass or NOC only after confirming that you have no pending dues. Before applying, make sure these are cleared:
- Monthly maintenance charges up to your moving date
- Water, electricity and gas bills (or the society’s sub-meter charges)
- Club house, parking or amenity fees, if any
- Any fines or penalties on your flat
Keep a copy of the payment receipts on your phone. Security staff sometimes ask to see the pass and receipts before letting the truck in.
3. Book the service lift and confirm moving hours
Large societies in areas like Whitefield, Sarjapur Road, Bellandur, Hebbal and Electronic City often allow moves only during fixed hours, and some do not allow moving on Sundays or public holidays. Book the service lift for your slot and ask whether lift padding is required — some societies want the lift walls covered to avoid scratches. Share these timings with your packers so they plan the vehicle and crew around them.
4. Check the refundable moving deposit
Some societies take a refundable deposit before a move to cover any damage to lifts, corridors or common areas. Ask how much it is, how it is refunded and what counts as damage. Take a few photos of the lift and corridor before and after the move as a simple record.
5. Plan around Bangalore traffic and parking
Truck entry and parking inside the society, or on the road outside, can be the biggest bottleneck. Ask security where the truck can stand and for how long. If your society is on a busy stretch such as the Outer Ring Road or Hosur Road, an early-morning slot usually saves hours of waiting in traffic.
6. Do the landlord handover properly
For rented flats, the security deposit is often the biggest amount at stake. Before you hand over the keys:
- Walk through the flat with your landlord or their representative
- Compare the condition with photos from your move-in day, if you have them
- Return all keys, access cards and remote controls
- Note down final meter readings and share them in writing
- Agree on the refund amount and timeline by message or email, so there is a record
7. Book a reliable mover who knows society rules
A mover who regularly works in Bangalore societies will ask about lift timings, permissions and parking during the survey instead of discovering them on moving day. Ask for a written, itemised quote and check the company properly before paying any advance — our guide on how to avoid fake packers and movers lists the red flags to watch for.
